<image:title>a fleeting ripple blog - #9 last week’s pens: week 12 of 2026 - TWSBI Diamond 580ALR -M architect- Dominant Industry Pearl Lavender</image:title>
<image:caption>This pen is simply amazing to put shimmer inks in, and the wet architect nib balances the lightness of the Pearl Lavender well. The fine silver shimmer compliments the light pink-purple base colour of the ink, showing only when it catches the light directly. Despite enjoying this pen, I’ve been growing to realise that an architect nib simply doesn’t suit my writing very well, and I tend to rotate the pen to get to a line variation. The cursive and round letters I tend to favour do much better with stubs instead of architect nibs. Still, this was the first pen to run out of ink this week, because the pair is extremely fun to write with.</image:caption>

<image:title>a fleeting ripple blog - #9 last week’s pens: week 12 of 2026 - Lamy Safari -M- Teranishi Guitar Melancholic Blue</image:title>
<image:caption>These medium nibs from Lamy tend to be generous, and this is not an exception. The ink itself is a saturated blue with a reddish sheen, and it is an interesting enough colour that I can justify having it among the deep blues. Unfortunately, this colour family is not my favourite, and the rest of this little sample will go to my boyfriend, as he loves these blues. I did use this pairing often, especially since the Safari is common enough that it stays inconspicuous in school.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Using this pen for two weeks really made me get over the fine nib & saturated ink combination. I’ve been using this pen for everything, and considering how little ink it uses, I’m very happy that I didn’t get anything more than a half-fill. After close to 10k words with this pair, it’s time to clean up and ink new stuff.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Whenever I use this pen and ink together, I turn into a cowboy with a 60’s pickup truck slapping the hood and calling it “the ol’ reliable.” This pair is simply ready to handle anything anytime. While it is carried over from last week, I did not find my enjoyment of them is diminished, it’s too old of a friend to get bored of.</image:caption>

<image:caption>When a lovely blue ink meets a generous nib, magic happens. The nib on this pen is one of the most middle-of-the-road nibs I own, it’s not dry nor wet, not smooth nor feedbacky, right in the middle of fine and medium. This also makes it special with its own writing experience, and a basic ink with a beautiful colour accentuates this. Another familiar pen and ink, never used together before.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I inked this pen for an exam last week, trusting the performance of the dry iron gall in an EF nib with the copy paper. It did not disappoint, and I managed to cram all my writing (and even drawings!) into the allocated spaces. The downside was that I was stuck with this overly businessy ink. Thankfully, it has been a writing-heavy school week, and I took this pen to every single one of my workshops and lectures, so there isn’t too much left.</image:caption>

Still, the ink in it is finished except for a single drop, so I’ll take that as a win. Sunny days call for bright inks, and the pastels seem to have taken a backseat for now.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This is my Fontoplumo fangirl moment! I seriously love these creamy resins Leonardo has been putting out over the past couple years, and this orange is not an exception. The regular MZ size fits my hand very well, and the Grande gives that “big pen” feeling with the familiar shape. The ink matches the orange of the pen perfectly, fitting the first sunny days of the year. Initially, I hadn’t loved the colour of this ink, but over the week it really grew on me.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This specific shade of blue is the most comforting thing, it really reminds me of the cotton flower scent that my parents used to use for their ironing. Go figure how a colour can bring back a scent. Therefore, this pair has been a comforting presence among all the fiery reds, as this pen is also one of my first fountain pens. The nib, the weight, the feel of it is as familiar as the back of my hand. Combined, they make for a reliable, middle of the road writer.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yes, I will write out the full name of this ink every single time, because I absolutely did buy a regular red ink only because it is named after a great author. The speed that this pen ran dry was not unexpected, I simply didn’t reach for any other pen. For three whole days. Inked on Sunday evening, completely empty by Thursday morning. I had a rocky relationship with Platinum pens, and this specific nib has erased all of it. No notes, maybe it’s already time to ink this again.</image:caption>

<image:title>a fleeting ripple blog - #5 last week’s pens: week 9 of 2026 - Kaweco DIY Sport Berry -M- Diamine Zeugma</image:title>
<image:caption>I love that I looked at the least used nib from last week and thought, you know what, I’ll ink it up again. This time though, the ink is right on point, so I actually used this pen so much more than last week’s M nib. The green sheen is exciting, the berry barrel and the burgundy of the ink compliment each other, and the ink flows nicely onto the page. Kaweco Sport is also a very familiar pen in my hand, so it feels like I had one new-ish pen (Platinum) and two very familiar pens to balance with a mix of inks. It makes sense in my head.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I love saturated inks in thin nibs, it’s a love that has been carried over from using gel pens, and this pair really offers the best of it. The rich dark blue base of the ink flows well, and is easily legible, which made it indispensable for quick notes during class. Unexpectedly from a very thin nib, this ink even manages to show some red sheen where the ink pools in letters. Overall, I enjoyed this, even though I have to add that a drop of water did destroy a chunk of my notes in class. I never learn...</image:caption>

<image:title>a fleeting ripple blog - #3 last week’s pens: week 8 of 2026 - Pilot Custom 742 -SF- Diamine Earl Grey</image:title>
<image:caption>It’s also a Diamine-heavy week, with the unexpected grey ink making an appearance. For years now, my eye has been on mnmnlscholar’s appreciation of grey inks, and sometimes I dip my toes in it too. Diamine Earl Grey is a safe bet for greys, hitting the middle of the road in saturation level, and leaning a little purple. The Pilot’s soft-fine nib lets it shade gently, without putting pressure on to show massive gradients or huge tonal shifts. The only downside of the soft-fine nib is that it confines my use of this pen to my desk, where I am most comfortable, as you trade in control for the soft writing experience.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This was my least used pen this week, despite loving the ink and the pen separately. I’m in the mood for fine nibs and saturated inks, which makes this pen & ink pairing not particularly appealing to my mood. It still got use, especially when I was journalling and just wanted to enjoy the old Tomoe River paper I use to see all the shading and a tiny bit of rusty sheen. The muted green ink and the medium nib are going back to the shelf for a rest, once my mood changes, they’ll see a lot more use once again.</image:caption>
